Professional Race Information System
Introduction and Explanation
The system may also be accessed from a link on
www.lamarathon.com/event/media/
It provides the progress of the leading male and female runners at every mile,
the half marathon and the finish.
Note the official distance of a marathon
is 42.195 kilometers.
This converts to 26 miles 385 yards.
The system consists of 5 web pages that display:
- The race number, name, total elapsed time, last mile and overall average mile pace
of the leading female runner plus the race number and elapsed times of the second and third runners at each mile and half marathon.
- As 1 above but for male runners.
- The race number, name, total elapsed time, last 5 kilometer
time and overall average 5 kilometer pace of the leading female runner
plus the race number and elapsed times of the second, third, fourth and fifth runners at each 5 kilometer location.
- As 3 above but for male runners.
5. The Challenge:
This is a 'men vs women' race. Based on the capabilities of the leading runners, the women start with a time advantage.
The start advantage is calculated to result in a tie provided both the leading man and woman perform as their capabilities indicate.
- The women’s start advantage and the average time that the men need to gain per mile to catch the leading woman.
- The race number, name and elapsed time for the lead woman and lead man at each mile and half marathon.
- The distance and time the lead man is behind the lead woman when he reaches each mile and the half marathon point.
- A prediction of the winner and the margin of the victory.
